Details
This is InterVarsity’s in-house approach to theology. Learning foundational theology from diverse traditions and voices will help us sharpen our awareness of our defaults so we can dialogue with others. We’ll also practice discerning which theological assumptions and commitments are active in our day-to-day campus work, and which ones may help us express our distinctive commitments for an ever-evolving context. Our spiritual practices during this time are intended to root all of our theological learning and reflection in a deepening sense of intimacy with God.

Holy Spirit on Campus: Experiencing the Power and Presence of the Holy Spirit in Ministry

Description
Instructor
Details
With his last words on earth, Jesus made a huge promise: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you...” (Acts 1:8). As you step on campus, do you feel that you’re operating out of the power of God’s Spirit? In this learning environment we’ve created spaces to experience the power and presence of God, while learning how to replicate these experiences in the ministries you serve. We’ll teach rhythms that will help you biblically and theologically ground and debrief these experiences, so that your students can learn to do the things that Jesus did, for the reasons he did them.

Tending our Inner Fire: Creating space to enflame our hearts with love for God and others

DESCRIPTION

DETAILS

Ministry is challenging. We are routinely tempted by busyness and overworking, often to impress others or find our self-worth in what we are achieving for God. These unhealthy motivations can leave us feeling empty, overextended, and vulnerable to life patterns that strain our relationships with God and others, stunt our growth in Christlikeness, and disrupt our participation in God’s mission. As God’s beloved adult children, we are invited to live and work differently, rooted in relationships and rhythms that lead to a sustainable, vibrant, and resilient life with the Blessed Trinity.

Details
We will help staff connect to Gen Z students through telling our best Kingdom stories. As we tell our stories of conversion, of God breaking through pain, and of witnessing communities filled with the Holy Spirit, Gen Z will be empowered to take steps towards faith in Jesus and join us in our communities. We will help staff identify their best stories for preaching, give them practice and feedback telling their stories, and we will help them find good passages in scripture to accompany their stories.

Every Corner, Every Campus, Every Country:  Receiving the Gifts of the Global Church

Description
Instructor
Details

An increasingly globalized world requires us to expand our discipleship and ministry approach.  This course will help participants to become more globally:

  • ROOTED – as we understand our personal stories in the context of a global historical narrative;
  • AWARE – adopting a multinational and holistic lens with Scripture, current and historical events and justice issues in the US and abroad;
  • INCLUSIVE – in how we engage in relationships, shape communities and develop campus strategies with an international mindset.

As we learn from global voices, including IFES, participants will be equipped to share this rootedness, awareness and inclusivity with those they lead, forming and growing multinational communities to better reach their campuses locally.

Pain & Prophecy:  Engaging Jeremiah in a season of disruption

Description
Instructor
Details

The book of Jeremiah offers language for when we follow God faithfully but still experience painful resistance. Rejected in his own day, Jeremiah endured difficult ministry that seemingly ended in failure. Yet the book bearing his name includes one of the greatest theological moments in the Hebrew Bible; its laments and promises echo into our time with striking relevance.

This course is for staff to encounter the power of God speaking through his Word. While increasing our awareness of the lenses we bring to the text, we will engage Jeremiah using a variety of methods in a vibrant learning environment. Staff will not only grow in our ability to lead from Scripture, but in our love for Scripture.
